Shocked scientists film humpback whale with no tail swimming down the Washington coast.

Yo, ever seen a whale without a tail?

Picture this: you're flying a drone over the ocean, looking for seals or maybe a shark, but instead—you spot a whale. Pretty sick, right? But hold up
this one doesn’t have a tail. How does that even happen?

Turns out, long-term entanglement in fishing gear is the ugly answer. Without its tail, this whale’s burning tons of extra energy just to swim. It’s a tough situation.

Red mangroves line the shore at Oleta River State Park

When you think Florida, you think Everglades, invasive species, and maybe some wild characters. But golf courses and pickleball courts in state parks? Yeah, that’s happening.

In places like Jonathan Dickinson State Park, there’s a push to build these on land that’s supposed to protect wildlife, like the Florida scrub-jay and other species. It’s crazy, and the public wasn’t having it. The backlash was huge—especially on social media and in our Discord—and guess what? The proposal’s been scrapped.
